Theories!!!
For me, there are a lot of tiny little details that hint at other things. The first thing I'd like to discuss is definitely vague, but we need more details before we can conclusively theorize: Team Statue. Here are the options:
A. Team Statue is the next generation of the Dharma Initiative. Personally, I'm a big fan because they WOULD know what was in the shadow of the statue. Also, they could have access to the knowledge of how to get back to the island. If this last bit is true, could there have been other next gen Dharma guys that came back? Henry Gale, anyone?
B. Team Statue is part of the Others. We know that they're out there. We know that, for now with the absence of Locke and Ben, they are leaderless (unless Richard automatically steps up). We don't know where they are right because they haven't taken any of the 316ers (as far as we know). We know that the Others CAN leave the island. This means it's definitely possible for them to be part of the Others. The one fallout of this theory is that when Bram talked to Miles, Ben would've been the leader of the Others and hence would've known about them or ordered them to. But Ben didn't even look like he acknowledged Bram or Ilana . . . could they be a splinter-group that broke off from the Others? Who would their leader be?
C. They work for someone else entirely.
Something else: Why were they taking the body to the Orchid? What were they going to do with the body there? Time-travel it? But, as Ben says, you can't come back from the dead. Or do they just want to hide the body?
Also, what was Faraday doing off-island? Many have theorized that he's off building the pendulum, but the pendulum is in L.A. not in Ann Arbor. But wouldn't the need that for Dharma to find the island in the first place? Speaking of that, how did Dharma even hear about the island? The numbers? Or, is Faraday working on getting our Losties back to the present? We'll see.

'Some Like it Hoth' Initial Reactions

This was a nice break from the style of the show and possibly the closest episode thus far that we could call a comedy. Hurley and Miles' banter was dead-on hilarious and there were so many lines that made me crack up. One thing I noticed that I especially liked was the Miles-Chang reveal. Unlike other reveals, many of which were less significant, it wasn't overly emphasized. I think the writers knew that the audience guessed the baby was Miles and so decided not to make it a huge reveal but rather worked it in nicely with the rest of the episode. I'm also excited to hear about the, what I call, Team Statue and what their purpose on the island is. Are they interested in taki
ng over the island ala Ben or Widmore or are their goals more specific? Where have they been all this time that Ben and Widmore have been going at each other? Do Ben and Widmore even know about them? Could they, and this is the lame option, just be working for Ben? (This seems highly unlikely, though and since they wanted Miles to forego working with Widmore I doubt their his employees, either). All in all, I wouldn't say this was the most intriguing episode, but it certainly was entertaining. It was nice to see an episode where the bulk of the interesting material was spread evenly throughout, rather than what's becoming a trend: putting most of the cool stuff in at the very end. Probably a 100/108.

We start out with a young miles with his mother at an apartment complex. Miles has his first ghost-sensing experience and discovers a dead body in one of the apartments (which he unlocked with a key under a stone rabbit - possible reference to time-traveling bunnies? going down the rabbit hole?). Miles says he heard the man call out for Kimberly, who was his deceased wife, and experienced his heart attack. On island, Kate and Sawyer return from the jungle and ask Miles to wipe the security tape. Miles is unable to finish because Horace walks in and invites him into the circle of trust. He's supposed to pick up a body from Radzinsky and then deliver it to the orchid. When he gets it, he uses his powers to discover that the man, Alvarez, had a dental filling shoot through his head. At this point, I think we can be pretty sure that the man was working in proximity to the electromagnetism of the Swan Station. Off-island, a pierced and dyed Miles shows up at his mother's deathbed but she won't tell him about his father, who apparently hated them and kicked them out. She says he's dead and his body is in a place Miles can never go. On-island, Roger finds out about Ben being missing. Kate tries to console him but only lands herself in a suspicious light. Jack defends her, and I get the feeling Roger is now also suspicious of Jack. Hurley shows up and wants to carpool to the Orchid with his sandwhiches and Miles cannot persuade him otherwise. The two go and discuss their abilities to speak with the dead. Miles eventually tells Hurley about what happened to the body and the drop it off at the Orchid, where Miles also tells Hurley that Chang is his father. Change, Hurley, and Miles ride to the Swan Station. Off-island, Miles is with a client. The man wants to let his dead son know that he loved him. Miles lies and says he knew that already after a very fake session which is reminiscent of Claire's psychic. Naomi shows up and says she has a proposition. She takes him to some kind of morgue where there's a dead body. This is Miles' audition, to speak with the body, Felix, who had detals about the 815 cover-up. But Naomi's team isn't the only one interested in Miles. After getting his fish taco, Miles is kidnapped by a group of men led by Bram, the same man in Ilana's group on-island, who asks him 'What lies in the shadow of the statue' and that until he knows he's not ready to go to the island. It appears we have a third side in play in the Ben-Widmore battle for the island. On-island, Hurley and Miles talk about Miles' hate for his father and Hurley admits he has been writing 'Empire Strikes Back' in the Star Wars series. Miles watches himself as a baby and Chang's good fathering skills reading him a book. Chang gets a call and summons Miles to help him go and get some scientists from Ann Arbor who just arrived. Off-island, Miles admits to the father client that he actually faked the contact with his son and gives him back his money. He says he'll be going on a boat trip soon. On-island, we see Phil come to Sawyer with the tape of he and Kate returning from the jungle. Sawyer knoskcs him out. We also discover that one of the scientists returning to the island is none other than Daniel Faraday.

What to Expect Next
The next episode is entitled 'Some Like it Hoth' which is a reference both to the film 'Some Like it Hot' (in which two of the main male characters dress up as women) and 'Star Wars' (in which we see the frozen, ice-covered planet Hoth). How or if the two are linked is certainly a mystery to me.Here's the official ABC synopsis and the guest stars list: Suspicions about a possible breach intensify after Ben is taken from the infirmary, and a reluctant Miles is forced to work with Hurley when he's asked to deliver an important package to a top Dharma official. Guest starring are Francois Chau as Dr. Pierre Chang, Marsha Thomason as Naomi Dorrit, Doug Hutchison as Horace Goodspeed, Patrick Fischler as Phil, Jon Gries as Roger Linus, Eric Lange as Radzinsky, Leslie Ishii as Lara, Brad William Henke as Bram, Dean Norris as Howard Gray, Tim DeZarn as Trevor, Lance Ho as young Miles and Linda Rose Herman as Evelyn.
That's certainly a long list. I'm most excited to see how Naomi comes back. And, of course, here is the link to the promo:http://www.youtube.com/results?search_type=&search_query=lost+some+like+it+hoth+promo&aq=o
We can expect to see a more lighthearted episode according to the official podcast and, from the promo, a body! Who could it be? I think it could possibly be Naomi (she might've been blown off the ship into the water and then washed ashore), Sayid (they might've caught and killed him, who knows?), or, and this is by far my favorite, Daniel Faraday. I doubt this last one, though. In all likelihood, it's someone we haven't seen yet. Maybe a Hostile. From what I can see, the body looked caucasion. We can also expect more of Miles' backstory as this is a Miles-centric episode and maybe, just maybe, a reveal of whether or not Miles is Pierre Chang's son. Looking forward to next Wednesday!
Another Richard Alpert? The Locke/Ilana Theory

Ben laid out a precedent two nights ago by saying that dead is dead. Nobody comes back from that. If we take that to be true, then can Locke be considered alive? My thoughts: no. So here's the conundrum: How/Who/What is Locke? To me, he seems more informed about the island. For instance, he now knows about where Smokey resides and his demeanor has changed. He's almost cryptic, much more confident, calmer, and, dare I
say it, almost divine. Here's my thought: he's become like another Richard Alpert. He's connected to the island in a way most aren't. He won't age because he exists outside of time. Ok, there's that. Here's another idea: Locke is only alive ON the island. Off the island, he is 100 percent dead. He is the first of his kind: a flesh and blood apparition of the island much like Christian (or recently Alex) except with a physical presence. We must consider, too, that Christian is able to touch and interact with things, so Locke could just be another Christian-figure. Also, make of this what you will, but they never showed Alex and Locke in the same shot. Intriguing, right? Final Locke theory: Ben was totally wrong. The island can come bring
people back from the dead. Moving on: Ilana looks a bit like Richard (well, more than a bit). Her behavior in this last episode suggests that she has a purpose on the island and is at least informed about the island. Could she be, as many have theorized about Richard, an original inhabitant of the island? It's certainly an exciting possibility. I suppose the point of this post is to make you question whether or not Richard is really the only one of his kind. I think the obvious answer to that is no. The real questions is whether we're seeing another of Richard's kind on the island right now. Of course, we'll have to wait to see Richard meet the new Locke and Ilana.

Check out the drawing (sorry about how dark it is). I think it's pretty clear that smokey is the kind of zig-zaggy creature on the left and the four-toed statue is the egyptian deity on the right. There are also some other symbols (ex: eyes) to make of them what you will. Also, here's a link to a gigantic version of the picture: http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/lostpedia/images/f/f9/MonsterImage.jpg
'Dead is Dead' Initial Reactions
What an episode! Unlike last week's, this was almost a completely mythological episode. What's interesting to me is how small the cast was. Of the major characters only Sun, Ben, Desmond, and Locke appeared though we did get appearances of Ilana, Cesar, Penny, Widmore, and Frank among others. I've said it before and I'll say it again: this season presents our characters in more locations and farther spread apart than ever before. I'm not sure if I like it, but I do like most of the storylines. One thing I forgot to mention in the summary was one of the last scenes. Frank returns and Ilana asks him 'What's lies in the shadow of the statue.' When he doesn't know, she knocks him out. This makes me think Ilana has/is either A.) Been to the island before B.)Working for Widmore C.)An Island native D.) A relative of Richard Alpert (she kind of looks like him) E.) Working for someone who is NOT Widmore or Ben. Perhaps the Economist, on the off chance that he had nothing to do with Widmore (or wasn't Widmore himself). Also, I'm intrigued to see what's inside that crate. I don't think it's weapons but it could be. This definitely puts Ilana in a different position/light than we've seen her before which makes her probably the most unexplainable new character we've had in a long time. Also, the end of Cesar? I end that with a question mark because it's difficult to say. Is that all we're going to get of him? In some ways, he's perfectly disposable and in others he still has a lot to say. The temple was also referenced in this episode and I must say after Ben said they built the wall to keep people like Locke and Sun from ever seeing it I was immediately dying to see it. I'm guessing we'll get a late season six reveal. There was one thing that was disappointing to me about this episode and that was the lack of Eloise/Ellie. Is she with Faraday? Does she even know that Faraday is on the island? What was her exact relationship with Widmore? Some people say she's his sister and some people say they are romantically paired. All in all, I'd say this was probably one of the better episodes of the season; very fast-paced (so I never got bored), well-acted, and well-written.

'Dead is Dead' Summary
OK, here we go: We start out with an older Widmore coming to talk to Ben. He basically begins Ben on his path to being an Other. In fact, we come to see a younger Ben (with Ethan along for the ride) stealing Alex. We come to learn that Ben was supposed to kill Rousseau, but Ben cannot. Instead, he takes Alex and warns Rousseau to never come and look for her. An older, but still on-island Widmore, clearly demonstrates the friction when he insists that Ben kill Alex. We eventually flash forward to the banishment of Widmore, who is still steaming about Ben's failure to kill Alex, and who states that his hunt for the island will begin. Older, injured, 316er Ben wakes up to find Locke. He insinuates to Cesar that Locke is potentially dangerous. Cesar says he has Ben's back. Later, Locke comes across Ben in his old office (on Hydra island) looking at a picture of him and Alex. Ben (who does not apologize for killing Ben) says he's come back to be judged her his sins. Locke eventually contradicts him, saying that he thinks Ben is there to be judged for killing Alex. The duo decide to travel to the main island, in the process Ben kills Cesar (that is his apology to Locke). It seems this is the end of Cesar but we cannot be sure. They come to Ben's New Otherton (dharma barracks) house and meet Sun and Frank. Sun says that Christian told her to wait for John Locke, but she is sure he's dead. Then again, there he is! We jump back to a present-day Marina where Ben finds Desmond and Penny. He shoots Desmond but cannot shoot Penny because he sees Charlie. He lowers his gun and Desmond crashes into him (yay! he's still alive!) and beats him up and then proceeds to chuck him in the water. According to the official podcast, however, Desmond is not out of the woods yet so fingers crossed. Ok, back to Sun, Frank, Ben, and Locke in New Otherton. Frank tells Sun that he's going back and urges her to come but she does not and Frank leaves without her. Ben retreates to his secret room we saw in Season Four and opens the Secret Door within the Secret Room (you know, the one with all the hieroglyphics on it). We then see a muddy pool of water in what looks like a cave-type room. He reaches into the water and pulls a plug (or something, it's rather like an earthy bath tub) and drains the pool. A hole is left open and he says he'll be waiting outside. When the smoke monster doesn't come soon enough, however, Locke decides to lead Ben directly to Smokey. It turns out to be under the temple and the two go in. I believe it's the same opening that the French people went into but I there's no way of being sure. Ben falls through the floor and into a secret room with a stone-etched drawing and a grate beneath it, out of which comes Smokey. Smokey surrounds Ben and shows him images of Alex and his' past. When it retreates back into the grate Alex is left standing there. She grabs him, shoves him up against a pillar, and tells him menacingly to follow John Locke. If he doesn't, she (the island) will personally destroy him. He agrees.
I'm Back!!
OK, if there's anyone out there in the universe who actually reads this: I'm back! I'm sorry for not writing, but I went away on vacation for quite some time. However, I have two apology tidbits:
1. The 15th Episode of this season, entitled 'Follow The Leader,' is RICHARD centric (rumored, anyway - but how cool is that!!!)
2. The super secret scene at the end of the season is going to be called (drum roll, please) The Fork In The Outlet!

What To Expect Next
We can expect the big reveal of what happened to Aaron and whether or not Young Ben is dead. We probably won't find out where Sayid disappeared to just yet but we'll likely get at least a glimpse of the 316 crew (possibly). We should also expect to see high tensions/suspicions about one of our Losties when the Dharma folk think that they have a spy. The next episode is entitled 'Whatever Happened, Happened' and is Kate-centric.
Here's where it gets a little spoilery:
The official synopsis - Kate goes to extreme measures to save Ben's life when Jack refuses to help. Meanwhile, Kate begins to tell the truth about the lie in order to protect Aaron.
And here's the link to the promo - http://www.youtube.com/results?search_type=&search_query=whatever+happened+happened+lost&aq=f
As of now, I cannot find any sneak peek videos but maybe we'll get a few tomorrow.

Quick, Tiny, Mini-Theory
We have two newcomers this season: Ceasar and Ilana. Ilana turned out to play a crucial role in explaining how Sayid came to be on the plane (obviously). Ben was busy escorting Sun and Jack to the church with Mrs. Hawkins. So, can we expect to see Ceasar play an active role in the fate of Aaron, explaining Kate's attitude. Or what about Hurley? P.S. This is not really a theory at all. But, oh, well.

Two Mini-Theories
Theory Uno: Sun/Frank/316ers are in an alternate future. In this future, the purge never happened because Young Ben died. This means that the Losties CAN change the future.
Theory Deux: Amy is an Hostile. She led the charge to kill Sayid to stop him from revealing anything about her. Ethan is an Other because he had access to them through his mother. This means that when we first saw her, it was either staged or something odd was happening that we've yet to find out.

A Very Short Synopsis of 'He's Our You'
Ok, here we go: Jack, Kate, and Hurley discuss Suliet (Sawyer/Juliet), Juliet thinks everything is over but Sawyer protests, Sayid refuses to follow Sawyer's plan and say he's a defecting Hostile, Radzinsky/Amy lead Dharma in condemning Sayid to death post-torture, a burning bus distracts Dharma while Young Ben smuggles Sayid out. Sayid then shoots Young Ben. Off-island: Sayid finishes up his job of killing all of Widmore's assoicates, Ben approaches him later with the news that Hurley is in danger, Sayid leaves the marina and gets a drink where he meets Ilana. She turns out to be a bounty hunter and subdues Sayid. She and Sayid board 316.

'He's Our You' Initial Reactions

A decent episode, to say the least. The edge they've given to Ilana's character is not unwelcome in the face of how timid she appeared to be. I'm not sure what they were trying to say she did as a proffession, so I'll have to wait and see more details (but they are coming at an irritatingly slow rate). In fact, one fault I see in this season is how far-flung these characters have gotten. Desmond is who knows where, Sayid is out in the jungle, Ben is on Alcatraz, Locke is with the 316ers, and Sun and Frank are at the Dharma Barracks in an undisclosed time period. We're looking at a very unfocused storyline that limits a lot of the interaction between some of the key players (not to mention screen time--Desmond's only appeared in about four or five episodes and it doesn't look like he's coming back soon). The episode was good, though, because it answered what we needed to know, namely who and why Sayid killed those people (if you missed it, they were all Widmore's people). I'm starting to think that the identity of 'The Economist' is either Widmore himself or unimportant, just another of Widmore's cronies. I like the fact that those who are returning are coming with a purpose. Here's the paradox, though: if Faraday is right, and you can't change the past, then the future adult Ben would've already known Sayid. And the big question: did Ben really die or is he just wounded? If he's dead, has he pulled a Locke and been, for lack of a better term, resurrected? One more thing: I appreciate that we figured out why Sayid approached Hurley at the end of Season Four.

Timeline Theory

Ok, we're all asking: why are Ben and Sun not back in the seventies? An explanation some fans have come up with is that you can't exist in the same time period with your past or future self. There can only be one of you in a certain time period. That's why some say that the baby we saw in the premiere episode with Pierre Chang is Sun. I think it's definitely possible. It's either her or Miles, but Miles is back in the seventies. If it's true that there can only be one of you in a specific time period, then that baby could possibly be Sun.
What to Expect Next
Here's the link to the promo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WI6gd_476Vs. The Next episode is titled "He's Our You" and is probably Sayid-Centric (it appears that we'll start settling back into the typical character-centric format). We'll hopefully see where Faraday went and what he's doing as well as why Sayid was on the plane in the first place. Though I'm not sure, I'm hoping for an explanation on why Sayid stopped working for Ben. From the promo, it looks like the writers will start to reveal exactly why each of the returning characters is back. Also, we should see life on Lost with Sawyer and Juliet as leaders. Now that they're in power, versus Kate and Jack, how will things go? I think Sawyer is a better leader (and has always been).
Whispers
One big running mystery in the show is the whispers that frequently surround our characters and occassionally when characters appear out of thin air (ala Harper in season four's "The Other Woman"). My theory: the whispers are the conversations of the dead. You can find the transcripts to most of the whispers at these links: http://lostpedia.wikia.com/wiki/Whisper_transcripts
http://lostpedia.wikia.com/wiki/Whispers#.22Namaste.22
The voices often talk about 'revealing' themselves. I have to wonder, are the characters that appear actually dead? That's how they appear. They were always there, just dead and out of sight. Hopefully, someone from lostpedia will make a quick update (they're typically pretty fast) and we'll get to read the transcripts from Namaste.

Young Ben Theory

The writers tend to age their characters as their actors age. This would mean that we're seeing a Ben who is a couple years older than the Ben we saw in the season three. In that episode, Ben had just met Richard Alpert. My theory: the young Ben we just saw in Namaste is already working for the Hostiles as a kind of double agent. This could mean that when Ben asks Sayid if he wants any mustard, he could be talking in code. Is he asking Sayid if he wants or thinks a recue mission is plausible? The irony: while Ben would be trying to help Sayid, Sayid would probably want to kill Ben. Also, on a non-related note, I have a feeling (and borderline theory-that's-not-really-a-theory) that Phil/Radzinsky will be trouble for our Losties.
Namaste Summary
We start out with a flashback to the 316 plane crash. Frank lands the plane on the same runway they were building in season three. Frank, Sun, and Ben are all still alive, but Jack, Hurley, Kate, and Sayid are missing. Then, we flash to Sawyer greeting them. Jin learns that Sun was with them on the plane and hurries off to find Radzinsky to check for the plane crash. Sawyer, with the help of Juliet (who has been looking for him), manages to make Jack, Kate, and Hurley into new recruits. They don new seventies clothes and, with "Dharma Lady" and other popular music playing, they go into the recruiting station where (gasp!) Jack meets Pierre Chang and is assigned as a Workman. Kate is helped out of a sticky situation by Juliet, and we can tell that tension is already brewing. Back with the 316ers, Sun and Frank follow Ben into the jungle (we discover they are on the second, smaller island fan-known as Alcatraz). Sun asks Ben where to look for her husband and he says there's a small dock where they can start looking. Sun knocks him out and she and Frank head across. As far as our two newcomers, Ilana and Ceasar, Ceasar is being a rather disruptive anti-Frank man who urges the fresh new batch of easily disposable backgrounders (fondly known as Log-Carrying Guys). Ceasar urges them to search abandoned buldings (the Hydra station) and look for a radio. Frank and Sun meet Christian at a trashed and abandoned Dharma barracks (we also get a tiny glimpse of Smokey!!) and Christian shows them a picture of 1977 new Dharma recruit picture. Sun is shocked and Christian tells him they have a journey ahead of them. Meanwhile, Sayid has been found and Radzinksy thinks he's a Hostile. Jin and Sawyer are forced to scramble to cover up for him, landing Sayid in a jail cell. Jack questions Sawyer's leadership, but Sawyer puts him in his place by telling Jack that Jack never led, he just reacted. The episode ends with Sayid meeting a young Ben.

Namaste Spoilers Up!
Slightly spoilerish: name of season 5 finale episode
Ok, so here is the latest from all around the web. The name of the LOST season 5 finale is . . . (and be warned, this is slightly spoilerish) "The Incident." The last time we heard of "The Incident" was in season 2, when Dr. Marvin Candle accidentally let slip that there was some sort of electromagnetic disturbance that spurred Dharma to start making people push the button every 108 minutes during one of his initiation videos. What could "The Incident" be? Perhaps something to do with Jugheard? Our Losties returning to the present? The Four-Toed Statue? Like always, we'll just have to wait to find out.

The Earhart Affair - A Kooky, Crazy Fan theory
Ok, so I know by now that we are all buzzing from lack of LOST news, so here's a fun theory for you that you might enojoy. Remember way, way back to the Season Three premiere. Juliet was talking to an elderly woman (sorry, I'm having problems uploading a picture) who, as I've recently discovered, is named Amelia. The two seem to share some sort of bond. To be specific, Juliet is about to disclose to Amelia that Ben has a tumor on his spine. Outside, Ethan is working on something (I think trying to fix some sort of ventilating problem). Amelia comments fondly, "Is that boy finished yet?" (Or something like that). To me, it's a very motherly tone.
Thought I haven't played any of the RPG games that pop up between seasons, I've done some digging and found out that a factor of the Post-Season 2 game was the mysterious disappearance of Amelia Earhart. Could Earhart have crashed on the island? Is this her? But Earhart disappeared decades before, right? Well, we know that time works differently on the island and that the island is always moving in space and time, so we can't rule this out based on logic. Personally, I think she either is the famed Earhart or someone related to her.
Now, here's the clincher: Amy is a shortened form of Amelia, correct? What if we're seeing a younger version of Amelia? And her son: Ethan. I've always favored this over some of the other crazier theories like her son being Jacob, Desmond, etc. And if she survived the purge, perhaps other people could as well which means that our favorite losties aren't necessarily as threatened as once thought. Problems: Aside from hair color, they don't really look alike. But, all the same, this could explain Juliet/Amelia's bond: because Juliet helped her deliver the baby.

What To Expect Next
Here's the link for the promo in case you missed it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3W-998EeS88
Next next week's episode is entitled 'Namaste' and is rumored to be Ben-centric. There are a few highly interesting guest stars who will show up. The first, which seems to confirm the centricity, is Young Ben. Other characters who will make an appearance include Christian Shepherd, Dr. Marvin Candle, a co-pilot (unconfirmed whether or not he was co-piloting 316), and, drum roll, Radzinsky!
We can expect to find out more about the Dharma days, information of Sayid, Sun, Frank, Ben, and Locke, what happens to the Jack, Kate, and Hurley, and more. My theory: Christian Shepherd has been on the island before the original crash. Also, we should expect a reveal on who Amy's baby is (because she's not allowed to give the name, it could be someone big and many think it is Jacob) and what happened to Amy. Also, what is the 'incident' Marvin Candle mentioned in one of his orientation videos in seasontwo? Something to do with our Losties? and, will some of our favorite characters end up being purged? The wait is gonna kill me!!

Cry me a river and build me a . . . statue?
Ok, so we've recently seen the mysterious four-toed statue (or we're ninety-nine point nine percent sure we have) and it looked egyptian. Weird, no? But we've seen plenty of other Egyptian references before, such as the symbols on the door of Ben's secret room, the ruin we saw with Jin/Rousseau, etc. Most recently, Paul (amy's former husband) had a necklace that was an ankh. Ankhs are symbols of everlasting life, by the way. Well, there are tons of ancient Gods and Goddesses that could fit the bill from what we saw. Well, I've gone onto Wikipedia, as we all know the most reliable source in the word, to look some of them up. Here are a list of Gods/Goddesses that I either thought COULD be the inspiration for the statue or who had animal ears.
Anubis - A jackal-headed God associated with death and funerals.
Bast - A cat-headed Goddess of war/solar
*Isis -Goddess of magical power and healing as well as protector of the dead
Ma'at - Goddess of truth, balance, order, law, morality, justice
Mafdet - Cheetah-headed Goddess of legal justice and execution
Menhit - Goddess of War (here's the interesting part: her name means 'She who massacres.' Anyone thinking of the purge?)
*Meskhenet - Goddess of childbirth and the creator of each person's Ka, a part of their soul which is associated with fate
Seker - The God who seperates the soul from the body
*Teweret - Goddess of pregnant women and the protector of childbirth
Wepwawet - The Jackal-headed God of war and scouting
I put asterisks on the ones that I favor. I like those that have to do with death or with childbirth, two big themes on the show.
Also, here's a link for Doc Arzt's theory that the statue has nothing to do with Egyptian deities at all: http://www.docarzt.com/lost/lost-theories/lost-theory-old-four-toes-solved-not/

'LaFleur' Summary
We pick up right before Locke disappeared. Juliet comforts Sawyer and they realizw they've leapt back WAY back in time to an ancient time. At this point, we get a glimpse of the four-toed statue which looks a bit like an Egyptian monument (more on that later). Later, they discover Daniel sitting dejected where Charlotte's body once was but has now gone on in a final flash. They make a plan to go back to the beach and on their way back they find Amy, a new character, at gun-point. Her husband, Paul, has just died. They save her and she leads them back towards the Dharma camp (we learn that it's 1974 during the height of the Dharma days). She tricks them, though, and turns the sonic-fence into some kind of paralyzing agent. From this point on, we jump back and forth from three years later (1977) and immediately following Amy's trick (1974). Three years back, Richard comes to claim the bodies Sawyer and Juliet killed while defending Amy. Sawyer basically pulls another Locke and says he's from the future. This stuns Alpert, but Sawyer gets away with it. Sawyer is also able to perpetuate lies that land him and our losties into dharma positions. In fact, Sawyer and Juliet are now a pair. Then, however, Jin discovers the first three have returned. The episode ends with Sawyer and Kate face to face.

'LaFleur' Initial Reactions

Best episode of this season! Hands down! 100%! We have so many questions left to answer: what will happen with the love square (Sawyer, Juliet, Jack, and Kate)? is Lafleur really one of those dead bodies in the pit (awaiting confirmation)? Was that really Charlotte? Where is Ben? Where's the other half of the 06? What's happening with Locke? And, drum roll please, we got another sighting of the four-toed statue. It looked Egyptian. According to some studious Lost message-boarders, it could be Anubis or Bastet. Or Frank (just kidding). Also, is that baby Ethan? Here's the biggest surprise for me: I am rooting for Sawyer and Juliet. Normally a die-hard Skater (sawyer/kate - er), I've changed my tune. After all, Kate (and Jack for that matter) has lost about a billion points in my book for this season! Stay tuned for further analysis (when I have the time).

'LaFleur' Spoiler Videos Up!

If you're into these videos, here are the links:
On a related note, the official description: Sawyer perpetuates a lie with some of the other island survivors in order to protect themselves from mistakes of the past.
And here's a goodie: On the official LOST podcast it's stated that LaFleur is the name of somebody. Guesses? I'm thinking it's this woman (right). The actress is Reiko Aylesworth and she's contracted for a few episodes, the first of which is tomorrow!!!
I haven't heard of any other show (well, maybe Star Trek) that gets people as excited as I am!

Spoilers
Here's my rules: If it's after the episode has been aired on TV, it's fair game for discussion. If not, I will quickly tell you if you're about to read anything spoiler-ish. For the most part, this latter part won't happen very often. That should clear anything up.

Quick Thought

What if the woman Frank walked away with was Libby? She needn't be alive and I think we're long overdue for a Libby sighting. This about this: it could be Kate, Juliet, or, presumably, Sun. It could be someone we don't know but I doubt it. It could be someone we do know but very little of (i.e. Beatrice (remember, we do
n't know exactly when 316 crashed. She could still be alive. Or, perhaps, Harper). It could be Eloise Hawking, but I doubt it. Wait, Wait, Wait, I have a way better theory!!! What if it was Claire! How awesome would that be???? I'm freaking out right now just thinking about it! Oh, also, to clarify, that Sawyer picture in my last post was a promotional for next week's episode, 'LaFleur.'

Harper (Above Right)
Libby (Aboe center)
Claire (Left)
Ps. If it's Claire, and Claire is dead, as theorized by countless others, then maybe we can also assume that Frank is, too?
Is the reason the Smoke Monster killed the pilot because it was supposed to kill Frank, but it just made a mistake and killed the wrong pilot?
'The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham' Initial Reactions

Wow! What an ending! I don't think any of us expected Ben to kill Locke like that. It seems to me that he wouldn't have, had he not known about Eloise Hawking. When he knew where to find her and that he should find her, only then did he kill Locke and he genuinely seems to (well, as close as Ben can) regret doing it. Here's how I award the episode:
Biggest Shocker - The crabby 06. Jack was a jerk. I stopped liking Jack after season one. Now he is pushy, annoying, angry, overly-controlling, stupid, and stubborn. And this episode really reflected negatively on Kate. She is very cold-hearted. Why would she not care about them at all? Unless she didn't believe Locke? Is Aaron really worth letting Sawyer die? In the promo for next week, Sawyer asks 'Is three years long enough to get over somebody?' Clearly, Kate has just confirmed that.
Biggest Mystery - Where is Frank and who is he with? Lots of people are speculating Sun, but I have to wonder why Sun wasn't beamed out like Jack, Kate, and Hurley. She was meant to come back, so why wouldn't the island take her? This makes me think it was someone else. Maybe Harper?
Biggest Set-Up - It looks like we'll be seeing what's happening on the island in present time (three years or a couple days ahead depending on how you think about it) and what happened in the dharma days.
Most anticipated moment - Sawyer-centric episode next week!! (This doesn't really have anything to do with 'Life and Death' but oh, well)
By the way, I thought the episode started a little slow, but picked up speed at the very end. His life off the island wasn't very exciting. I'd give this a 90 out of 108.
Looking forward to next week!!!

Sneak Peeks for 'The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham'
Ok, three new videos are on youtube.com right now and practically begging to be checked out! One shows Locke getting picked up in what looks like the same area that Ben was and driven away in the back of a truck. From what I could tell, it looks as though that first clip and the next are related. Here's my theory: the reason Ben had to kill those guys was not because he was in any danger, but becase he didn't want Widmore to capture him. Widmore probably knows where they get transported and the next clip shows a dialogue between the two. The third is a conversation between Abaddon and Locke. Looks like an excellent episode. What to Expect Next
Ok, so let's take some time to discuss the promos. The next episode is titled 'The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham.' It looks to be fairly self-contained around Locke, but unlike Michael's equally centered story, Kate, Jack, the mysterious dark-haired woman, and Ben make an appearance. Also, the guest stars include big names like Walt, Christian Shepherd, Widmore, and Abaddon. To summarize the promo, it looks like we'll see Locke immediately after being transported away, in a hospital recovering, with Widmore somewhere, talking to Ben somewhere (but not actually seen in the promo), and preparing to hang himself. The big question: who is the myterious man watching him commit suicide? Is it Christian, Widmore, Ben? Jack looks angry at Locke but Kate looks, surprisingly, guilty. What did he tell them? All in all, it looks like this week's episode will be a winner.

Valenzetti's Return?
Eloise Hawking kept referring to a 'clever fellow' who discovered the location of the island. Well, one could theorize a hundred names, chief among them Daniel Faraday and the Hansos, who could've done it. However, I'm wondering about Enzo Valenzetti, the non-canon figure from the Lost Experience alternate-reality game. Valenzetti created an equation that would predict the end of mankind, and the coefficients are (you guessed it): 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42. What the variables represent are unclear. In Valenzetti's info, it says he died in a plane crash. Well, what if Valenzetti simply found a plane that would fly through one of the "windows" Eloise Hawking was talking about? What if he didn't die at all, but was simply brought to the island? Could he be on the island now? Part of the dharma initiative? An Other? We'll see.
Our Own Loose Ends
There were some serious set-ups for future episode arcs in '316'. If you recall, the EW article mentioned LOST leveling out and returning to it's old formula of character-centric episodes. Once it does so, it looks like we have the subject matter of the upcoming episodes. For Kate, it's what she did with Aaron. For Sayid, it's why he's in custody. For Hurley, it's how did he get out of prison and what's making him come back? And for Ben, why was he bloody? Was he after Penny? Is Penny dead?
As for Kate, I say Kate's mom or Cassidy (Sawyer's baby mama) has custody. I'm favoring Cassidy, because it would confirm most of our thinking: Sawyer asked Kate to check in with Cassidy and his daughter for him.
As for Sayid, (from the promo) Locke seems to have had contact with that dark-haired woman. Maybe he made sure she would enforce the 06 going back? Or, as she looks hispanic, is she somehow related to Ana Lucia and has a law enforcement background? Is he seriously being escorted or is this a staged ploy? Did he commit a crime? Be framed for a crime? Have a crime he did for Ben discovered? Who knows?
As for Hurley, I think it's feasible to say he saw another dead person. Because he's dressed like Charlie, we may be treated with another Charlie-sighting soon. Or, what do you think about a Libby-sighting? Could this be an oppurtunity to fill in the holes in Libby's past? Once he was motivated by a ghost, he could easily post bail.
Finally, for Ben, I'm sticking with the idea that he went after Penny. As to whether he was successful, I am doubtful, but when he saw Desmond it looked like he also saw his oppurtunity.
Speaking of character-centric episodes, where are the Sawyer and Juliet episodes? I am dying for one of those (though, not one like 'The Other Woman' which was disatisfactory at best).

316 Summary
First off, this was a fantastic episode! I've overdosed on LOST! Ok, so the episode starts off with Eloise Hawking introducing us to the Lamp Post, a dharma station they used to locate the island. She explains some of the science behind it and basically tells them they can get back by going on the Ajira flight 316. Ajira, as you know, is the airline whose waterbottles were spotted by Juliet, Sawyer, and co. Eloise gives Jack a special job by handing him the suicide note of Jeremy Bantham, the alias of John Locke. Later, at a bar, Jack learns that his grandfather has made an attempted escape from his retirement home. Jack pays a visit and gets his fathers shoes which (because Eloise told him he needs a piece of his father to give to Locke to make him more of a proxy to his father's body--they need to recreate the same flight as the first time as best as possible) he chooses as his father's item. He ends up putting the shoes on Locke and returning the suicide note which is later returned to him on board the plane. Meanwhile, Ben is mysteriously injured after "tying up loose ends" and Kate has decided to come along after strangely ridding herself of Aaron. Sayid is being escorted onto the plane by a mysterious woman. Hurley, too, is miraculously out of prison and emulating Charlie. He buys the rest of the 78 seats in the front section of the plane. Besides the 06, only the woman escorting Sayid and another shady man sits with them. Onboard, Jack reads the note which says 'I wish you had believed' and we all discover that Frank is flying the plane. There is a flash and they are on the island; Jack as a model of the first scene of the series. Only he, Hurley, and Kate are together. The rest are somewhere else. Finally, a new Dharma van comes driving up and out pops Jin with a gun suited up in full Dharma uniform.

Post-Podcast Stuff
OK, I'm a big fan of the Jay and Jack podcast as well as The Transmission podcast. They're both great ways to connect and share with other fans. Then, of course, there's the Official Lost Podcast. Here's a couple big things/ideas we learned:
1. Hurley is the voice on the signal Rousseau's team picks up. He's the one repeating the numbers (4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42). This means, in essence, Hurley cursed himself and is the reason he was on the plane.
2. This next episode '316' and the next next one, 'The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham,' could've been in the opposite order. This means 'Life/Death' is probably a self-contained story, possibly similiar to Michael's episode last season.

Of course, there are tons of "easter-eggs" in This Place is Death. To check out some, look at: http://www.buddytv.com/slideshows/lost-easter-eggs-for-episode-55-this-place-is-death-52182.aspx.
One of my favorites suggest that Charlotte is Annie, because she mentioned not being able to have chocolate before dinner. Annie gave Ben chocolate in a Ben-centric episode of season three. However, this makes me think that Charlotte is Annie's daughter, rather than Annie herself.
For more theories, check out Jay and Jack's site: http://www.jayandjack.com/ or The Transmission's: http://www.hawaiiup.com/lost/. Both are very reliable.
Questions/Comments others seem to be spreading:
- How did Ben protect the O6
- Doesn't it have to be all the O6 going back? Will just some of them do?
- Maybe the island is skipping because the wheel if off its axis. Did Locke fix it when he turned it?
- Who are Charlotte's parents?

What To Expect Next . . .
Here's what is confusing: it seems unlikely that Locke would just give Ben Jin's ring. If he didn't, how did Ben get that ring? Well, either way, we can expect a scene showing a meeting between Ben and Locke, and, by extension, perhaps the other Oceanix 6 as well. Also, assuming the Charlotte was telling the truth, we'll also see Dan warning a young Charlotte not to come back to the island. This means we'll probably get to see some kind of exploration of Charlotte's past. From the spoilers out there right now, it doesn't look like we'll get a full-blown Charlotte-centric episode so we'll have to hope we get enough material to piece together Charlotte's unexplored past through multiple episodes.
If you won't watch the promos, don't read this: It looks as though we'll be getting a Jack-Kate (Jate) kiss, an explanation of the science Eloise Hawking has been working on, and the return of Sun, Jack, and Kate.

Sickness Theory
The smoke monster is the subject of much controversial debate. From the hieroglyphics on Ben's secret door to those on the temple ruins we saw last Wednesday, we can assume that Smokey resides near or in the Temple we've heard of but never seen. Some people also think that the black ring of ash around Jacob's cabin (seen in season three's The Man Behind the Curtain) is actually some form of Smokey.
Here's my theory:
Smokey is a collection of all of the souls of the people who've died on the island. When the armless french man yelled "Aidez-moi" or "Help me!" it wasn't actually him, but Smokey, masquerading as him. Those that went in after him came out with different souls. Smokey took their souls and replaced them with some it already had, souls set on protecting the island. That's the sickness. Of course, it doesn't happen to everyone, only to those the island views as a risk or doesn't want to outright kill much the same as Eko. Speaking of Eko, the french people could also be similiar to Yemi, but Yemi was an apparition, not a physical being. So Yemi (eko's brother, seen in season three) shows that the smoke monster can manifest itself and speak. Can the smoke monster, for lack of a better term, possess people as well? We'll see.

This Place is Death Summary
Ok, here we go: Sun confronts Ben about Jin's death. She's about to kill him when Ben says he has proof that Jin is alive. Meanwhile, Jin and the French people go marching through the jungle to find a radio tower. Smokey (the black smoke monster) attacks and rips off one of the men's arms. He drags the man below the ruins of some kind of temple and the other french people, minus Jin and Rousseau, go down. Time jumps, and Jin, terribly confused, makes his way to the beach where he witnesses Rousseau killing her team. She seems to think that her team is not the same people, though they have the same bodies. She seems to be right as her love, Robert, tries to kill her. Time jumps again and Jin finds our Losties. Charlotte is in terrible danger and collapses as the flashes come again and again with smaller intervals in between. Sawyer, Juliet, and Miles have nose bleeds. Charlotte tells Jin, "Don't let them bring her back. This place is death." Locke leads them, without Daniel and Charlotte, to the orchid, which, in a time flash, disappears. They find a well (which Charlotte told them to find) and Locke decides to go down into it. Jin makes Lock promise not to bring Sun back and to tell her he's dead. He gives Locke his ring as proof. Meanwhile, Charlotte tells Daniel she grew up on the island but her mother took her away and tried to tell her the island was just something she made up. She became an anthropologist to find this place. She also remembers that a man, now identified as Daniel, came to her and told her if she came back to the island, she would die. She does, moments later. Meanwhile, Locke finds himself with a broken leg at the bottom of the well, the same icy place where Ben moved the island last season. Christian Shepherd tells him, basically, the reason the island is in danger is because he was supposed to move the island, not Ben. He does, and we flash to off-island. By this time, the group has broken apart and Be, Sun, and Jack are driving towards a woman who can prove that Jin's alive. There, they meet Desmond, and Eloise Hawking, revealed as Dan's mom, tells them they need to "Get started."

EW Article: Good Read
I was surprised to find an Entertainment Weekly coverstory about Lost. EW.COM has tons of Lost info, so I encourage everyone to check out their Lost center. The actual article I saw was well-written and full of interesting tidbits. For instance, the article makes it sound as though not all of those who managed to get off the island will return. To quote Evangeline Lilly, who plays Kate, "Season 5 is about do they or don't they make it back to the island, and every character has their reasons. There's so much more than meets the eye." Also, to those of you who aren't fond of the time travel, it seems that Lost will resume it's normal character-centric foundation within a few more episodes (the next 3 to 4 are about returning to the island). And for those of you who really, really can't stand the time travel and heavy sci-fi aspects, Lindelof and Cruse promise a big pay-off if you make it through this stretch of episodes. The article is http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,1550612_20245769_20257373,00.html. The purpose of this blog isn't to spoil, but I'll try to post some of this slighty spoilerific material from time to time.

Ready for Take-off?
Hey, world! If anyone actually chooses to read this blog, I'm thrilled. If it's just me rumbling, that's fine, too. The point of the matter is, I'm crazy about the TV show LOST and would love to create a center of communication to discuss the show. The show is currently entertaining us with its fifth season and has gone through four episodes. Starting with the next episode, I'm going to take time to muse about the show and theorize about the future. We only have this season and next year to revel in the show, so let's enjoy it while it lasts!
